Fear?

 

 

Josh 1:9

9          Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go."  (NIV)

 

Isa 8:13-17

13         The LORD Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, he is the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread,

14         and he will be a sanctuary; but for both houses of Israel he will be a stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall. And for the people of Jerusalem he will be a trap and a snare.

15         Many of them will stumble; they will fall and be broken, they will be snared and captured."

16         Bind up the testimony and seal up the law among my disciples.

17         I will wait for the LORD, who is hiding his face from the house of Jacob. I will put my trust in him.  (NIV)

 

2 Tim 1:7-9

7          For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.

8          So do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord, or ashamed of me his prisoner. But join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God,

9          who has saved us and called us to a holy life-- not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, (NIV)

 

I Jn 4:18-19

18         There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

19         We love because he first loved us.  (NIV)

 

Ps 23:4

4          Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.  (NIV)

 

Col 3:1-4

1          Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.

2          Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

3          For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.

4          When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.  (NIV)

 

Phil 4:6-9

6          Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

7          And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

8          Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-- think about such things.

9          Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me-- put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.  (NIV)

 

Pray instead of dread

Matt 26:40-41

40         Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. "Could you men not keep watch with me for one hour?" he asked Peter.

41         "Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak."

Col 4:2-4

2          Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.

3          And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains.

4          Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should.

Col 1:9-14

9          For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding.

10         And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God,

11         being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully

12         giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light.

13         For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves,

14         in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
