Church Government

Pastorates

This is the only government model most are even familiar with.  We call the preacher Pastor because he usual is.  That is all he is allowed to be within the church government structure known as a Pastorate.  Apostles will get bored or frustrated in a Pastorate, so they leave.  We are left with Pastors or Teachers.

Teacherships

When the guy behind the pulpit wants you to agree with him or leave, he may be a teacher.  It is fine for him to teach behind the pulpit but really apostles are the ones to decide about dividing over doctrine or not, and who goes where to plant what church.  Teachers tend to argue doctrine too much and need older apostles to rein them in.

Apostleships

Bethel in Redding, CA teaches occasionally on apostleship, and regularly from the apostolic perspective.  That may explain why they have sustained revival for 12 years now.  One such sermon is “Unity of Spirit” by Kris Vallotton, downloadable for free at http://ibobs.org/.

Apostles have spent some time and gained some life experience in each of the other 4 folds of ministry, so they know how to train and manage the others.

Governors

Kris points out that a Governor needs a government to work in. As above, there are some in the 5-fold ministry who do not and will not have a place in a Pastorate or Teachership.  This makes it an old wineskin.  That is why we are presenting apostolic models of Church governance, like G12.  It stands for “Government of 12”.

Isaiah 9:6
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

KPI’s

Conversion growth captured into a G12 structure (net) is the Key Performance Indicator in Apostleships replacing former primary KPIs:

  1. Teachership - How accurately he teaches the bible
  2. Pastor - How good he makes people feel
  3. Apostleship - Conversion growth captured into a G12 structure by identifying, equipping, and empowering 5 fold leaders.

Governments

Apostles create and establish governments, but usually leave them in the hands of governors (see #4 below): Elders, Board Members, Trustees, depending upon what they set up.

  1. Isaiah 9:6
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:5-7 (in Context) Isaiah 9 (Whole Chapter)
  2. Isaiah 9:7
Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
Isaiah 9:6-8 (in Context) Isaiah 9 (Whole Chapter)
  3. Isaiah 22:21
And I will clothe him with thy robe, and strengthen him with thy girdle, and I will commit thy government into his hand: and he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah.
Isaiah 22:20-22 (in Context) Isaiah 22 (Whole Chapter)
  4. 1 Corinthians 12:28
And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.
1 Corinthians 12:27-29 (in Context) 1 Corinthians 12 (Whole Chapter)
  5. 2 Peter 2:10
But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.
