The bible commands believers
to make right judgments in God,
instead of in the flesh.
John
5:30
30
By myself I can
do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to
please myself but him who sent me. (NIV)
1
Corinthians 2:15
But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of
no man.
(Whole Chapter: 1
Corinthians 2 In context: 1
Corinthians 2:14-16)
1
Corinthians 2
15The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself
is not subject to any man's judgment:
John 7
24Stop judging by mere appearances, and make a right judgment."
John
"Do not judge according to appearance, BUT JUDGE WITH RIGHTEOUS
JUDGMENT."
Luke
12:57
57
"Why don't
you judge for yourselves what is right?
(NIV)
1
Cor
12 What business is it of mine to judge
those outside the church? Are you not to
judge those inside?
13 God will judge those outside.
"Expel the wicked man from among you." (NIV)
Hypocritical judging is
strictly forbidden:
Matthew 7:1-5
1 "Do not judge so that you will not be judged.
2 For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of
measure, it will be measured to you.
3 Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice
the log that is in your own eye?
4 Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,'
and behold, the log is in your own eye?
5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will
see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye."
Rom
2:1
1 You, therefore, have no excuse, you
who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other,
you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same
things. (NIV)
Nit-picking, contentions,
slander, and holding others accountable to your personal judgment about a
non-scriptural issue is also forbidden:
Rom
14:3-4
3 The man who eats everything must not
look down on him who does not, and the man who does not eat everything must not
condemn the man who does, for God has accepted him.
4 Who are you to judge someone else's
servant? To his own master he stands or falls. And he will stand, for the Lord
is able to make him stand. (NIV)
Rom
14:10-13
10 You, then, why do you judge your
brother? Or why do you look down on your brother? For we will all stand before
God's judgment seat.
11 It is written: "'As surely as I
live,' says the Lord, 'every knee will bow before me; every tongue will confess
to God.'"
12 So then, each of us will give an
account of himself to God.
13 Therefore let us stop passing judgment
on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or
obstacle in your brother's way. (NIV)
1
Cor 4:5
5 Therefore judge nothing before the
appointed time; wait till the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden
in darkness and will expose the motives of men's hearts. At that time each will
receive his praise from God. (NIV)
James
4:11-12
11 Brothers, do not slander one another.
Anyone who speaks against his brother or judges him speaks against the law and
judges it. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in
judgment on it.
12 There is only one Lawgiver and Judge,
the one who is able to save and destroy. But you-- who are you to judge your
neighbor? (NIV)
Luke
6:35-37
35 But love your enemies, do good to them,
and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will
be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the
ungrateful and wicked.
36 Be merciful, just as your Father is
merciful.
37 "Do not judge, and you will not be
judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be
forgiven. (NIV)
John
12:47-48
47 "As for the person who hears my
words but does not keep them, I do not judge him. For I did not come to judge
the world, but to save it.
48 There is a judge for the one who
rejects me and does not accept my words; that very word which I spoke will
condemn him at the last day. (NIV)
Acts
42 He commanded us to preach to the people
and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and
the dead. (NIV)
